Many activities will be held in the northern province of Yen Bai during the Tourist Programme “Reversion to the Origin in 2007,” said the organising board. The events include:

Dong Cuong Temple Festival

Dong Cuong Temple Festival is scheduled on 10th March 2007 in Dong Cuong commune, Van Yen district. The rites feature an invitation ceremony in the worlds of the living and the deceased, royal offering ritual, procession of the palanquins of the Tutelary God and Holy Mother. The festival part features traditional cultural and sport activities such as xoe dance, con throwing, en playing and traditional operetta singing).

Muong Lo Cultural Week

The event will be held from 15 – 20 October 2007 in Nghia Lo town to mark the 55th anniversary of the liberation of Nghia Lo. The week includes traditional festivals, sports competitions, Tay Bac (North West) Fair and a food and drink competition.

Suoi Giang Panpines Festival

The event will take place from 15-16 June 2007 in Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan district, featuring a dancing festival. Tourists to the festival will enjoy Suoi Giang tea and study the tea ceremony of the Mong ethnic minority people. Tours to cultural hamlets and adventurous tours to Tap Plang Waterfall will also be held.

Grapefruit flower festival

The event is due to take place on 25th September 2007 at Kha Linh communal house, Dai Minh commune, Yen Binh district. The event is to feature Kha Linh Communal House Festival, grapefruit flower offering rite, community tours at Ngoi Tu cultural village and traditional sports.

“Exploring Thac Ba” festival

The festival is to take place on 30th April 2007 at the tourist park in Tan Huong commune, Yen Binh district. The festival includes a travel week to explore “the beauty of Thac Ba Lake culture,” cultural and artistic shows at houses-on-stilts quarter, Thac Ba boat race and Thac Ba Lake’s traditional gastronomic contest.

Nam Cuong Temple Festival

The festival, expected to take place on 4th March 2007 in Nam Cuong commune, Yen Bai city, will show a pigeon releasing ceremony to pray for the villagers’ peace, boat race in Nam Cuong lake and a tug-of-war competition.

Apart from joining festivals in Yen Bai province during the tourism year, tourists will also have a chance to visit beautiful sites in the province such as Thac Ba Lake, one of three biggest man-made lakes, Mu Cang Chai species and bio-landscape reserve, the western region of white bauhilia flower and the Giang Spring.
