The northern province of Thai Nguyen, home to the Viet Bac revolutionary base during the resistance war against the French colonialists, will host the National Tourism Year 2007
The event will mark the 60th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee's move to the safety zone in Thai Nguyen province to lead the resistance war. In a working session with authorities of Thai Nguyen and relevant ministries on July 18, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said the event should be organised solemnly and effectively to attract tourists to Thai Nguyen province and boost trade and investment. With the theme "Thai Nguyen Tourism Year, back to the capital of mountain winds - Viet Bac revolutionary base", the province will launch a series of programmes focusing on historical, cultural and ecological tourism. A ceremony to launch the Tourism Year will be held in February, when the Tay ethnic minority group celebrate their well-known Long Tong festival (beginning a new crop). Thai Nguyen province expects to welcome 750,000 tourists and earn over 300 billion VND (18.75 million USD) from travel and hotel services in 2007. (Source: VNA)
