The delegation, guided by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese, Nguyen Thanh Son, was taught the history of the temples as well as the great contributions made by the king and princess to the local people. The same day, the delegation visited Thien Mu pagoda, the oldest one in Hue and also visited the Imperial Palace of Vietnam’s last dynasty. Nguyen Duc Anh, an overseas student in Czech said, “although I often travel back to Vietnam, this is the first time I have visited the relic sites in Hue, which I only saw through television, newspapers and books.” “I also gained more knowledge about the feudal history of Vietnam, especially during the reign of the 13 kings of Nguyen dynasty.” Dao Thi Vieng Ngan, a Lao student, added that she was deeply impressed with the travel as she has had an opportunity to make friends with Overseas Vietnamese students from 30 countries. On July 22, the delegation will travel to Quang Tri and join the incense offering ceremonies at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Road No.9 Cemetery and Truong Son Cemetery. These are practical activities to mark Vietnamese Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27) and help the young overseas generation learn more about the heroic revolutions of Vietnam and commemorate the fallen soldiers fighting for the country’s freedom and independence.
