A memorandum of understanding on an 11.11 million USD project to develop tourism in five Vietnamese provinces belonging to the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) was signed in Ha Noi on February 29.
Signatories to the project were the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Asian Development Bank, and the project management board. The five-year project will be carried out in northern mountainous Cao Bang and Bac Can provinces, and central coastal Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, where large populations live in poverty while the natural potential for tourism development are rich and diverse. Addressing the signing ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh stressed that Viet Nam’s strategy on tourism development gave importance to poverty reduction. He expressed wish that the project would help promote effective models for tourism development and poverty alleviation to make Viet Nam leading the region in the industry. (Source: VNA) |
