The capital city of Ha Noi launched a campaign on January 13 to help raise public awareness of environmental protection.

The campaign was part of the capital city’s activities to celebrate the millennium anniversary of its founding in the year 1010 with the name Thang Long.

The campaign marked the start of a festival called “Khoanh Khac Thang Long-Ha Noi (Thang Long-Ha Noi’s Moment), which marks 1,000 days ahead of the grand ceremony of the millennium anniversary which will take place in 2010.

A giant digital count-down clock will be put in place at the heart of the capital near Hoan Kiem Lake at 22 p.m the same day.

Other activities include an exhibition, themed Ha Noi – Past and Present, and dragon dances and processions.

Around 2,000 people are expected to participate in the festival.
