Thua Thien Hue province and the Akitek Tenggara Group of Singapore recently signed a US$3.52 million contract under which Akitek Tenggara is to devise a Thua Thien Hue Tourism Overall Development Plan to the year 2015, with a vision to 2025. Of the US$3.52 million, Thua Thien Hue is to provide US$0.47 million.

Thua Thien Hue has great potential for tourism development. UNESCO has recognized the ancient imperial quarters in Hue and Hue ceremonial imperial music as a world heritage, and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently declared Hue to be an official festival city.
The contract requires that within 12 months Akitek Tenggara is to devise 10 projects that will increase tourism in the province.

At the signing ceremony, Singaporean investors presented suggestions for an upgrade of the Phu Bai International Airport and luxury tourism projects in Thua Thien Hue.
