Construction of the luxurious Novotel Imperial Hoi An Resort began on July 11 in central Quang Nam province’s Hoi An. The four-star resort is to be built by the local contractor, the Supporting Services and Investment Development Joint Stock Company, at a cost of 300 billion VND (18.75 million USD) and will be housed on a 4.3 ha block complete with 200 rooms and villas, restaurants, bars, tennis courses and swimming pools.
More than 776 million USD in 17 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects were pumped into the tourism industry in the first half of the year, according to the Viet Nam National Administration for Tourism (VNAT).
Ho Chi Minh City tourism is developing rapidly. However, the lack of luxury rooms still remains. The city’s tourism department is striving to have an extra 6,000 luxury rooms by 2010 as a development requirement.
